"The kitchen bench. They love to feel it. Everyone sort of walks in, stands right near it,
and
then they just run their hands over it, feeling it because it just looks so lovely. I really
find
that people just stand and feel and talk to you while they're standing there. It's quite a
big
span that they're feeling. And then I find that they also walk around and look at the sides,
because the edges aren't uniform."

"When Caroline first suggested that I use some celery top pine for our current kitchen, I
was reluctant. Having lived with that glossy yellow timber for 25 years, I couldn't see it
in
my vision for my new kitchen. But after having a conversation with Caroline, I couldn't stop
thinking about the timber and about my family and the memories that we created in our
kitchen. All the roast dinners that we'd cooked, all the birthday cakes we'd made. Family
memories, Christmases and birthdays. I started to feel in my heart that it would be
special."

"I did come down to the art school the first time I saw it, and then it had been cut. And I
think I went, you've cut the end off! I was shocked… Yes, a limb. Which is really funny
when I didn't even know that I had that connection at the beginning of the journey. And
then I ended up with this big connection."

"What you've done is create this beautiful piece of timber made up of little different
memories."

"I think I look at it and go, yeah, well, there's 20 years of family history sitting there.
And we always tell people that as well. It retains the old but brings to the new."
